- Safeguarding Framework PolicyThe Diocese takes a zero-tolerance approach to abuse. The Diocese strives to inculcate the safeguarding of children and vulnerable persons as a core practice in all its parishes and faith communities as well as all the services and programmes offered by the Diocese.
The Diocesan Safeguarding Framework Policy (â€~Framework’) is designed to:
• support diocesan workers to meet their safeguarding obligations
• provide diocesan leadership with guidance on what needs to be incorporated into individual parishes’ and agencies’ policies, procedures and operational norms to achieve compliance with state and Church legislation, obligations and expectations
• assist the Diocese in being a â€~child-safe organisation’. - Safety Training and Induction ProcedureThe purpose of this procedure is to set out the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle's (the Diocese) commitment to ensuring all workers and other persons have the required work health and safety training to undertake their role in a safe manner and eliminate as far as reasonably practicable the risk of harm to themselves and others.

This document outlines considerations and practical approaches when using social media including official Diocesan social media accounts, unofficial work-related accounts and personal accounts. In conjunction with the Media Policy, the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle encourages the acceptable and beneficial use of social media by staff.

- St Nicholas - Administration of First Aid ProcedureSt Nicholas Early Education is committed to providing children with an environment that promotes their health, safety, and wellbeing. St Nicholas Early Education will provide immediate and effective first aid to children, St Nicholas team members, families, or visitors by suitably trained St Nicholas employees, as required.
- St Nicholas - Administration of Medication ProcedureSt Nicholas Early Education is committed to providing children with an environment that promotes their health, safety, and wellbeing. St Nicholas Early Education will provide effective administration of medication to children by suitably trained educators to ensure safe operations when the administration of prescribed medication may be necessary to support children while attending St Nicholas.
- St Nicholas - Complaints ProcedureSt Nicholas is dedicated to fostering mutual respect, responsiveness, accountability, and transparency in managing complaints and grievances. We view complaints as valuable feedback that can drive critical reflection, quality improvement, and self-assessment, thereby supporting our continuous improvement process. We welcome feedback from employees, parents/carers, and children through various channels.
The Education and Care Services National Regulations require approved providers to ensure their services have policies and procedure in place in relation to complaint handling. This procedure needs to be read in conjunction with the St Nicholas Compliance Policy, the Complaints Resolution Policy and Complaints Resolution Diocesan Procedure. - St Nicholas - Compliance PolicyThe purpose of this policy is to outline how St Nicholas Early Education at the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle (the Diocese) will ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and standards.

St Nicholas Early Education aims to support families, educators and children in the prevention and management of dental issues in children through policies, practices and partnerships with the community.

To ensure maximum safety and preparedness in the event of an emergency or evacuation, children, and team members will identify and assess risk and hazards and regularly practice emergency and evacuation procedures to be confident in managing situations effectively and efficiently.
- St Nicholas - Finance ProcedureSt Nicholas are committed to providing all families the opportunity to enrol their children at our Early Education and/or OOSH services, with a fair and inclusive fee structure. St Nicholas are committed to maintaining financial integrity and comply with all Child Care Subsidy legislative requirements.
The Education and Care Services National Regulations require approved providers to ensure their services have policies and procedure for the payment of fees and the provision of a statement of fees charged by the service. This procedure needs to read in conjunction with the St Nicholas Compliance policy and St Nicholas Enrolment procedure. - St Nicholas - Incident, Injury, Trauma and Illness ProcedureSt Nicholas Early Education is committed to providing children with an environment that promotes their health, safety, and wellbeing. St Nicholas Early Education aims to create an environment which minimises incidents, injury trauma and illness and educates children and families in relation to health and safety practices.
St Nicholas employees have a duty of care to respond to and manage illnesses, accidents, incidents and trauma that may occur at the service to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, educators and visitors.
- St Nicholas - Medical Conditions ProcedureSt Nicholas is committed to providing children with an environment that promotes their health, safety, and wellbeing. St Nicholas will work in partnership with families to facilitate effective care and health management of children with medical conditions while in the service. This may include the administration of medication, performing health care procedures and developing a plan to support the needs of the child.
- St Nicholas - Safe Use of Digital Technologies and Online Environments ProcedureSt Nicholas recognises the increasing presence of digital technology in the lives of children, St Nicholas educators and families, and is committed to ensure the appropriate engagement with technology to enhance the educational program, record children’s education and care, and communicate with families.
St Nicholas is committed to providing a child environment, acknowledging both the physical and online environment. Digital technology will be utilised by St Nicholas team members, children and families in a manner which protects children, while enabling learning opportunities, documentation of children’s learning and communication between the home and service.
This procedure recognises there are continuing advances in the use of technology including software, apps, information sharing and devices and therefore St Nicholas team members must seek advice and clarification from the St Nicholas Nominated Supervisor and St Nicholas Area Service Manager when engaging with new or unfamiliar technology.
- Sustainability PolicyThe Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle (the Diocese) is committed to becoming a leader in sustainability within the Newcastle, Hunter and Manning Regions of New South Wales, Australia. The Diocese aims to achieve our sustainability goals through the ongoing development and implementation of an endorsed Sustainability Plan, which embeds sustainability through our early childhood and school-based teaching and learning practices, community engagement through our pastoral ministries, and the development and management of Diocese assets and facilities.
